Axis: Bold As Love, Hendrix's second album, doesn't resonate through rock history the way its gatecrashing predecessor, Are You Experienced? did. In places, it almost seems as if Hendrix is cruising, albeit sublimely. Yet it's nonetheless a vital album, containing some of rock's most molten milestones. There's the fluid psychedelia of "Castles in The Sand", the viciously funky "Little Miss Lover" and the so-beautiful-it-hurts "Little Wing." Hendrix really hits altitude with "If 6 Was 9", where he waves his "freak flag high" over a tidal wave of guitar and a cacophonous army of Moroccan flutes--and "Bold As Love", based around Hendrix's typically far-fetched hankering for the axis of the planet to be tilted, thereby transforming life on earth. It works up into a head-melting frenzy of distorted guitar, a precursor to the staggeringly expansive leap forward he would take with 1968's Electric Ladyland. Hendrix dreamed the impossible and achieved it on his guitar. --David Stubbs Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold As Love The CD Version With The "Safety" Stereo Remix. 01) EXP 02) Up From The Skies 03) Spanish Castle Magic 04) Wait Untill Tomorrow 05) Ain't No Telling 06) Little Wing 07) If 6 Was 9 08) You Got Me Floating 09) Castles Made Of Sand 10) She's So Fine 11) One Rainy Wish 12) Little Miss Lover 13) Bold As Love Source: Polydor 813 572-2 -> EAC (secure + cue) -> Flac(8) Includes log, cue sheet & full artwork at 200dpi. Torrent Produced by Prof. Stoned Recorded by Eddie Kramer Produced by Chas Chandler Mastered by Carlos Olms Note by the Prof.: There are two stereo mixes of this album known to exist. The original one, prepared in 1967 by Hendrix, Kramer & Chandler. And the one in here -a.k.a. the safety mix- which appeared first in the early 70's on a Polydor release. Other than that, nothing is known about the whereabouts of this remix. Polydor (both in Europe and Japan) has since used the safety mix for all their releases, untill in 1989 Alan Douglas was put in charge of taking care of the Hendrix re-issue program worldwide, and thus the safety mix went OOP. There are subtle differences between the two and personally I tend to like the safety a bit better than the original mix, because there is somewhat less of the typical 60's panning going on. But then again, I prefer the soundquality of the Reprise 6281-2 I seeded here today somewhat above this one. So, something good can be said for both versions. Together with the Japanese p33p & p20p which both use the same digital masters, this is the only CD version of this mysterious alternative stereo mix of Jimi's 2nd album. And it has gone out of print since the late 80's. It is an essential oddity for Hendrix freaks, and many European & Japanese fans probably grew up with this mix (I did too). For you audio freaks out there, I've included a list with the differences between the safety and the original mix (indicated as EH) in this torrent. Enjoy, Prof. Stoned PS: Make sure to hear this album in Glorius MONO as well: http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/809581/2069021/ And here is the Original Stereo mix: http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1149715/10345105/ *** If you like it, tell me. If not, I will delete the torrent. Too heavy to keep it active for nothing. Thanx. ***
